Things to do in TangierLooking for souvenirs or traditional craftsmanship? The medina of Tangier, the historic heart of the city, is the perfect place. Wander through cozy narrow streets and alleys filled with shops, charming restaurants, souks, and homes where you can experience traditional Moroccan life. From souvenirs and carpets to pottery and handcrafted goods—you will find it all here. A feast for the eyes, ears, and senses. Definitely worth a visit! After visiting the medina, Grand Socco is an ideal next stop. It is a lively square with a fountain in the center, surrounded by palm trees, benches, and terraces. Located between the old and new parts of the city, it is often considered the central hub of Tangier and is very popular among locals. Nearby is Petit Socco, a smaller square with French influences, where you will find cafés serving crêpes and café au lait. A visit to the Kasbah, located at the highest point of Tangier, is also a must. It requires a bit of a climb, but the stunning sea views are well worth it. The Kasbah is the old fortress (citadel) and is much quieter than the medina. The houses here have a Mediterranean look with an Arab atmosphere. Within the Kasbah lies the sultan’s palace “Dar El-Makhzen,” which is now used as a museum of Moroccan art and archaeology. Its courtyards feature beautifully decorated wooden ceilings and marble fountains—an impressive cultural and historical attraction. Want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city? Take a scenic coastal or forest hike in the surrounding green landscapes with breathtaking sea views. A short drive takes you to Cape Spartel, where the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea meet. Nearby, you can also visit the famous Hercules Caves, a spectacular natural attraction. Climate TangierThanks to its favorable location between the mountains and the Atlantic Ocean, Tangier enjoys mild temperatures throughout the year. Even in July and August, temperatures rarely exceed 28°C. With warm summers and mild winters (occasionally humid), Tangier is an ideal year-round destination. |
