Historic Al Hoceima

Around 1925, Spanish colonists settled in Al Hoceima, and these influences can still be seen everywhere. There are houses and schools built in Spanish style, and there is even a Catholic church. Some street names are also in Spanish, and the name of the city itself has Spanish influence. Al Hoceima is derived from the Spanish word “Alhucemas,” which means lavender. Around 1950, Morocco regained control over Al Hoceima. During the years that followed, when economic conditions were very poor, all houses were painted blue and white. When the city began to develop in better times, people painted the houses in bright colors. Since 2007, however, all houses have been repainted in blue and white, the original colors of the city.

Climate Al Hoceima

Al Hoceima can be visited all year round; however, the period from May to October is the best time to visit this holiday destination. During these months, the temperature is pleasantly warm and there is little to no rainfall.
